Band performance for Animangaki 2014!

Haha this was a 4 weeks ago!

This is the third time we performed for AMG xD
This time there's a slight change though, instead of our usual bassist Dustin, we had a sessionist to replace him, Taro :3

The lovely members~

This time we planned proper jamming session instead of just last minute rushing we usually did hahaha. But then thinking on that, I think we changed the habit. Can't recall when was the last time we rushed lol~ It's a good thing XD

Here's a picture during jamming!

This was in Pertama's studio. Meh, don't like this studio, it's quite crappy. I don't mind the room downstairs which is better, but then that is more expensive.

Usually we jam in M2 Studio, in Puchong. It's wayyyyyyyyyy better. But because of some timing issue, we have no choice but to go here.

I don't know if I'm the once that changed, or my members did. I used to think the guys as very serious and no fun, and it was hard for me to talk to them before lolol. But now, it's all different. They were making so many lame jokes hahaha xD And they seem more cheerful as well o.O
Except for David, he seems more emo lol.
Minori is just like she was xD (Stay fun, Minori! XD)

Well, overall the jamming sessions were really enjoyable :)

Now, on to the performance~

I was supposed to fetch Taro in the morning, but kind of knowing him, I guessed he'll still be sleeping lol. I was right xD I called him when I depart from my house, and hahaha he was like 'oh my gawddd'.
Luckily I called him first~

Because of that we're kinda late, but it doesn't matter, the sound engineers were later than us. -_-
So...we just hung about waiting for soundcheck.

HAHA my expression XD

Lol don't know what i was talking about, but I look so funny haha. And lol I wonder what is so fascinating about the cables I was rolling to make Taro stare at it like that~

Made Daniel hold on to the cables while I do goodness knows what. And I can't remember who took the photos lol.

Selfie!

Without Chrysler and David, don't know where were they. And with an additional Acap lol.

There's this poster, and Minori was going on about how bishie the character is hahaha xD
We're all teasing her afterwards lol~

Half group photo lol

Anyway finally the sound engineers arrived, and we start soundchecking.
It's unfortunate for me, but I think there is something wrong with the DI box for the keyboard amp. In the end I had to blast out form the amp T_T

Other than that, it was ok.

BUT.
During performance, stuff went wrong with the monitors. I can't remember exactly what it was.(Ahaha I'm writing this 4 weeks late ._. )
We couldn't hear each other properly lol (Isn't that always the case???)
And the speaker placement is quite cacat. The audience on the left and back could hear clearly, but those on the front and right will have no clue what we are doing lolol.
Oh well. We had fun anyway wwwww

Here's a not complete video that my friend Gem took. Haha thanks!

After performance, we went to have our lunch in Texas chicken :D
Woah, I can't recall going with the whole band to eat something and just chat :o
It was great though.

And then we encountered this 'photo booth' hahaha

Chrysler have already ciao-ed that time though. Oh well :3
They printed this photo out for me too hehe.

So yeah, hung around a bit more after that, and they I left :3

We still have 2 jamming slots left with the studio, can't wait to meet them again!

C2age 2014

C2age happened two weeks ago.
I was there sessioning on the keyboard for Myclamyra Project's performance.

OOTD!

As usual, I go all black haha.
Ear hooks from taobao, skull shirt mom got from I don't know where, pleather skirt from taobao, leggings from Daiso, and black chunky boots from taobao as well.
So much love for taobao wwww. Oh, bag from taobao as well xD

On that day, I became a driver for Kyee and her friends as well.
Fetched them to c2age as well.
When I got there, I met up with Gem and Kamal, and after we stored our stuffs, we went our ways. I hang around with Acap, and soon the time to meet up again came.
Unfortunately, Susan was still stuck in the traffic haha. The other band members were starting to panic. About 10 minutes before performance, she finally arrived.
I remember I ran down to find her, and unluckily my phone died on me, so it made everything harder.
After a while, I found her though. Brought her to the main stage, where the others are almost done setting up. Luckily, they've took my keyboard and kind of setup for me as well.

Nose ish itchy

After the performance, we took a few group photos, but with the drummer M.I.A

From left: Dustin, Kamal, Acap (our helper for the day haha), Gem, Susan, and me.

Random selfie

After that we went to a nearby mamak restaurant for lunch, except Dustin that left, and the drummer which are still M.I.A

It was fun to talk about audio and music with these people hehe.
We hang around more, until about 3pm Acap and Kamal left to go to Bently's Music for a Battle of the Band. Gem, Susan and I continued hanging around since it was raining, and Eugene (another member of Myclamyra Project that didn't perform this time) join us as well.
Around 4pm, Susan leave. I hung around with Gem and Eugene for a while, then I met Leena!
She gave me a Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans, and guess what, I got a booger flavored bean fml.
It tasted horrible, yuck yuck yuck. Uggghhh.
Anyway, after chatting with her for a while, I met Captain Allen, and Nekochi!

Selfie together wwww

Another with just the Captain hehe

After meeting them, can't remember what I did.
Lolololol. Guess I just roamed around, until Kyee finish her mini shoot and we went home.
:3

That was Day 1. For Day 2, initially I did not plan to go at all. Then I talked to Minori, and in the end I went to support her performance.

Got there sort of early, then I bumped into Calvin!
We went to Old Town, he have his lunch and I was just drinking hehe.
We chat, then after he's done, I went to find Minori.
On the way there, I passed by Feito, and he yelled my name lolol.
I was sorta rushing, and I didn't her him go "Joe joe joe joe joe joe joe" but then I heard a sudden "JOE!!!!!!" lol.

Poor Feito, having to try so hard to catch my attention hahaha

After that selfie, I rushed into the stage area since Minori's performance was supposedly starting.
But as usual, there's delays lol. Wasted my energy rushing -_-

Her OOTD! hehe

Some shots of her on stage. I kind of end up being like the stage photographer today LOLOL.
Just took photos of all those performers :3

A performer, I have no idea who he is even though we said hi :x
I forgot his name :x

But he sang awesomely though!

Despite some problems he had to deal with, cause of the freaking sound engineer.
The freaking sound engineer....Damn, where should I start?
Let's start by..He moved the speakers to the front of the stage, which is bad because the performers can't hear themselves, being behind the speakers. And because there is no monitor speakers wtf.

Why would he move the speakers towards the front?
Well because...The vendors opposite the stage were complaining that it was too loud.
Okay, I get it, it's loud. But what I don't get is, WHY DAFUQ IS HE MOVING THE SPEAKERS TOWARDS THE FRONT WHICH IS CLOSER TO THE VENDORS.

Ehhhh hello?!?!? It's common sense that the nearer it is, the louder it'll get. What da bloody fuck.
I can't brain, and I don't even-
*Sarcastic tone*

Another thing is, if people is complaining that it is too loud, (and it really was LOUD), you should lower the volume damn it.
And even though it was loud, he keep increasing the gain when people are performing wtf.
As a result the sound is crackly, and feedback occurs. -_-

And ohhhhhh, he had the nerve to say "I am sorry, but I can't guarantee that you'll be able to hear anything at all up there."

Wadafak. He told that to Kaoru before her duet with Minori.
..........................
What's wrong with him? zzzzzzzz
Anyway, in the end they managed to get him to move the speakers back, which kinda made things a little bit better.
(but because of the venue and the way the audio engineer keep tampering with the gain, everything was still bad)

Minori and Kaoru dueting

And oh, there was a ramen eating competition as well haha. Can't remember whether it happened after or before the duet though.

Among all these people, there's only a girl. And she won!! Hahahah xD
Awesome wwwwww

Harmonia ACG performed as well, and here's a few shots;

Sophia helped out during a song as well :3

They did a good job, I like their harmonies haha.

A photo of the crowd for I don't know which performance lol

I guess that's all?
The on the way back, I stop in front HELP Uni since Kyee's friend left her stuff there.
And bumped into Yun hehe. Selfied with her, with me inside the car hahahaha xD

Ok, got to go now, ciao!
More updates will come soon hehe.

Everything changes. And life just happens.

I never know what I what.
Not then, not now.
I was always confused, my desires keep changing and I can't really picture my future.
Whenever people ask me how do I see myself like let's say 20 years down the road, I'll probably shrug and say I don't know.
If they demand an answer, I can only tell them I want it to be near the ocean, related to music, arts, and I want freedom.

I wonder, how do I piece those things together?
I have no idea how, but I guess it'll just come to me when the time is right.

That's what happened to me so far. Stuff just came, out of the blue.

For example, The Crestfall.

Carlson just messaged me out of the blue one day asking me whether I want to join a band or not. I had no idea what I was agreeing to face when I said yes. I was only 16, and the reason I joined is because I love music and want to play it together with people that share the same interest.
I only want to have some fun.

I did not realize the stress, time, money that would come with it.

Stress, because we went through members changed so frequently and we need to deal with last minute jamming.
Time, because there will be jamming sessions, home practice, and events to attend.
Money, because we need to book the studio outside and pay ourselves.

Nor did I realize that by agreeing to join The Crestfall, I would take up an interest in audio engineering.
And that lead me to take the course I'm taking now.

Thinking back, it was kind of funny though. When I first join the band, I don't even know what the fuck is a bass guitar.
I didn't know that usually there will be a lead guitar and a rhythm guitar.
I don't even know how to play the keyboard properly, I'm only basing everything on my Grade 5 piano knowledge.
Without realizing I've pick up more knowledge and skills.
Previously I can't detect the bass line.
Previously I can't sing back up vocals.
Now I can. There is so much more other things I learnt.

Anyway, being in this band also introduced me to friends.
There's members from other bands, event committee members, and just plain music lovers.

It's so weird how one thing lead to another.
Stuff just happened, and I never seem to realize it until time passed. Only then did I realize how much something small could be big.
And how something big could become small again.

The Crestfall seem dead now.
Or maybe it's just me. Am I losing interest?
I am a sessionist for Myclamyra Project for the upcoming c2age event, and also to help them out with the video audition for Jrock no Tamashii.
Jamming with a band feels so different from how it use to feel. There is no more hype for me.
I even told them I don't want to join Jrock no Tamashii.
I used to want to join it so much.
But now, I have no more interest in it.

Minori applied for Crestfall to perform in c2age as well, but I said no to it.
I don't know why I did that.
I was the one that said I missed the band, that I want to have jamming session and performance.
But I guess I can't be bothered anymore.

Despite all these, when I saw those band's audition video for Jrock no Tamashii, I felt a sharp pang on my chest. It was quite depressing.
It's like, how can I love and hate something at the same time?
And all the while I thought that it doesn't matter to me anymore.

What the fuck do I actually want?
You probably can tell I'm fucking confused lol.
Somehow this post turns out completely different from what I want to talk about.
Again, I guess it's because stuff just happens.

Meh.

Performance at UTAR ACG2014!

Hello peeps~

My band The Crestfall was invited to perform in UTAR ACG2014 yesterday, but Minori made it an acoustic performance consisting with only me and her lol xD So it's more the girl trio from Crestfall haha, since we're the only females in the band lol.

Anyway, I performed at the same event last year, but it didn't go well at all..If you want to know what type of disaster I went through, you can read here haha. HERE HERE HERE

Well, this year is a whole lot better! :D
As usual, the committee is very friendly and helpful :)

This year, there's no technical problems for us, thank goodness for that, but they could do with a few monitor speakers, it was quite hard to hear ourselves :/
But still, I think we did okay!

I know I messed up a lot of time, since I only started practicing like a few days before the event lol..And I tried doing back up vocals the last minute, and uhhh some sounded awful? :x
Just hope Minori's voice is loud enough to cover it lol.

The crowd was awesome as well, we played a hit song, The Beginning by One Ok Rock as our first song, and they were singing along to it :D
But then, our second and last song were To The Moon by Laura Shigihara and Pledge by The Gazette, which almost none of them knows? lol.
Still, they were very supportive and cheered us on ;w;
Thank you so much!

Some pictures of us while waiting for performance:

Selfies xD

Our OOTD :D

And some of us on stage lol

Derpy me lol

Photos by ACG Fiesta

Anyway, even though this was a very small event, it's fun! And oh, surprise, I met Swee there! :D
Totally didn't expect that at all, I was talking to Perogumi members beside the stage, then when I turned around, I saw Swee! I was like, oAo!

It was such a small event, didn't really expect to meet people I know lol.
Was glad I met Swee, he told me he'll be flying back to England soon, and won't be back anytime soon :/

Oh, and Asyraf was in the crowd cheering us on, though I didn't realize that at first.
I thought he looked familiar, but I wasn't sure if that's him @_@
And I was too stupid, wait correction, shy, to say hi *facepalm*
Not sure what's gotten over me :/

Well that's all I guess?
Tata xD

Being a crew for Indie Youth Fest 2013!

Indie Youth Fest event happened a week ago, at Publika.
I got a chance to help them out through my college. At first I was having troubles deciding whether to go or not, since I have a run on the 10th, but in the end I said yes.
I'm glad I went :)

I drove over to USJ on Friday, and on Saturday morning I headed along to Publika along with Oliver and Emad. I did not know the route to Publika, but luckily there is GPS. It's kinda scary though, my driving skills aren't that stable yet, and Oliver is scaring me by scaring himself hahaha. Still, we got there safe and sound xD Guess my driving skills isn't all that bad hahahha.

When we got there, we were briefed on what to do, and we setup the stage.

Did some arranging of chairs, setup those banners, setup microphone stands, etc.

Monitor speaker

Mic and line port, where we connect microphone and the monitor speaker

 Cables and DI boxes lol

*random: 3 functions of DI boxes:
-Impedance conversion
-unbalanced to balanced conversion
-Earth isolation

lol.

It took a really long time to setup the stage for some reason, mainly because the drums and amplifiers were late? Anyway, it was done at last.
Kinda learnt how to setup an electric drum set and the amplifiers, which are quite easy I guess.

After everything on stage is done, the first band did their sound check.

Not sure if I remember correctly or not, but I think they took AGES to do their sound check @_@

Anyway, I felt sorry for them .___.
They're the first band to play, and the place is empty. There's on audience beside us crew, and the vendors.
So I went and sat down on the chair, and be their audience.

The vocalist's like, "...erm, hi. *waves* " And I waves back and said hi lol.
Then he look around, and goes, "...Hi, chairs."
lol

Still, I felt bad for them :/

After them, there's a solo by erm..Forgotten his name .___.
But here's a pic:

There's some other bands as well, but I really like this Singaporean band called Take Two.

They're doing acoustics, and their songs is awesom!
And look at all the handsome faces *w*
Hahahhaha.
Oliver's like, "so, which one do you like?"
Lol xD

And oh, in their middle of their performance, the wind blew strongly and the banner behind fell -_-
I jumped up the stage to fix it, and bruise my leg in the process fml.
Been a week, and the bruise still hurts T^T
Then the wind blew away straws from a food vendor's stall, and I picked those up too.
The I stupidly gave them to Emad, and he look at me funny and said,
"Just throw them away, no one's gonna use those straws now."
.....What was I thinking .____.
When will I stop being absent minded OTL

Anyway, our job was just to make sure stuff goes on smoothly on stage, and tends to the musicians.
I helped setup the keyboardist's keyboard, and all of them have such nice keyboards and midi controller T___T So jelly.

Anyway watching all those bands, I miss my band T_T
I wanna go jamming, and perform with my members again.
Why is everyone so busy TwT

Well anyway, halfway through the event I got dragged to look after the CD booth -_-

Boringgggg ._.
Luckily it's only for a short while.

I helped record videos too.

This is the sound room, but it's placed in a horrible location lol.
I got the experience to try and listen to the bands through the headphones, basically all the mics and lines and connected to this thing. It sounds just like a recording, but the band I listened to sounds...erm...bad ._.
So I guess sometimes being a sound man could be bad, depending on the situation lol. :x

Around 7pm, we changed location.
We moved in to Paradiso lounge, instead of being outdoor.

Look at all the instruments *o*

Setting up and indoor location is so much easier lol, probably because the venue is smaller.

After that, I went with an old lady (not sure what is her role in this event) to get food for us.
I don't really like doing these type of stuff actually, but since I'm the only girl she just drag me away TwT
Oh well.

After that, there's not much to do.
We ate, then just chill on a couch.

Here's a picture of me, looking tired haha. Awful eyebags and dark eye circle TwT

Anyway, I guess that's all.
Before this during live performance, I've only experienced being the musician. (keyboardist)
But now, I've experienced the stage crew side.
Being a stage crew wasn't as easy as I thought, there's more to it than I've always thought.
On the other hand, some things could be extremely simple too lol.

There's this guitarist that couldn't get a sound from his amplifier, and he asks for my help.
And all the time, it's because the main switch is off.
I sure did have a silent laugh to myself xD

Well that's all. Can't wait when I could go on stage and perform again, and at the same time, become an audio engineer xD
